1)Explain why Romeo helped you understand the main idea.
2)Describe Romeo who you enjoyed reading about.

In the story of Romeo & Juliet I will be stating in my essay a description of Romeo who I enjoyed reading about and an explanation of how the character Romeo helped me understand the main idea, which is Romeo's impulsiveness and the consequences of revenge.  Romeo is a teenager in Verona and part of the gang known as the Montagues. I enjoyed reading about him because he made a lot of rash decisions throughout the story. He is also interesting because he falls in love with Juliet who is in the Capulet gang and are not allowed to be seen together openly for the risk of being killed by their opposing houses.

Romeo who is a teenager is a bit irrational when it comes to making decisions. His impulsive nature adds tension to the play making it more interesting. He shows this in act 1 scene 4 where he and his friends Benvolio and Mercutio gate crash the Capulet party and start to enjoy themselves. Romeo says " what, shall this speech be spke of our excuse? Or shall we on without apology?" before they go to the party.

Another irrational decision he made was when he rushed into a relationship with Juliet in act 1 scene 5. Romeo catches a glimpse of Juliet of Juliet then straight away follows her and kisses her. That choice was far too risky because Tybalt saw Romeo with Juliet and quotes "this, by his voice, should be a Montague. Fetch me my rapier, boy." Romeo is a risk taker which is why he was in a lot of trouble.

It then lead onto a fight when Tybalt confronted Mercutio. Tybalt had slain Mercutio so then the outraged Romeo who was overwhelmed exploded with anger and killed Tybalt. Before he killed Tybalt he says “Either thou or I must go with him.” Unknowingly for the consequences that layed ahead Romeo was banished for his bad decision. Romeo's decision was chosen by the emotions he had felt inside. Although Romeo was banished it didn't stop there.

When he had found out of Juliets death he quickly rushed to the church at which she lays at. If he hadn't of rushed he would've received the note that Father Lawrence had sent to him that day. But because of his characteristics he goes on and buys a dram of poison. Seeing Juliet dead that day he gives her a kiss and commits suicide, not knowing that Juliet was still alive.

He helped me understandthe main idea of conflict and the consequences of it because in many of the scenes it involved the rivalry of the two gangs, the Capulet and the Montague. If the two houses were not at war then Romeo and Juliet could of gotten married peacefully without living in fear of either getting killed by the two gangs. But since the two were at war there was a lot of consequences. Like when Romeo had to visit Juliet in secret or they will be killed. Another consequence was if the two houses were not at war then Juliet would not of had to take the potion in the first place leading onto Romeo who would not of had to take the poison when he mourned over the fake death of Juliet. If there was no rivalry then Romeo and Juliet would have lived happily ever after.

I really enjoyed reading about Romeo because he is very impulsive which adds to the suspense and makes him more interesting. Also after reading about Romeo, he helped me to understand more of the main idea of conflict and the consequences of it. Also it helped me understand that due to his feelings and emotions he made decisions really quickly, so emotions can affect and have a big impact on the decisions you make whether or not you are a good or bad person.
